WINTER HAVEN TRAVEL SERIES: HIP EXPERIENCE TINOS PART V

It has been a long, but magical journey. One that has awakened me once again to the hidden, yet glorious simplicities of life.

DAY FIVE: DEPARTURES

The man is walking on the beach alone.

He is still touched by the melodious whisper of the waves,

the way the water is persistently lulling the rock to sleep.

Nature around him

(cedars, rotten fishing boats, shingles)

has a melancholic, unaffected brightness.

If he were to die at this moment,

he would want to be here,

in this place, where he has been before.

Even for a while.

For now.

August Meditations – Haris Vlavianos

THE PARTING

It has been a long, but magical journey. One that has awakened me once again to the hidden, yet glorious simplicities of life.

I therefore rise early to catch my last sunrise over Tinos, spend an hour with Tigre and say my final goodbyes. Later however, as Yann drives me to the harbour my happiness is tinged with a hint of lingering melancholy as, whilst grateful and pleased to have had made such an unexpected discovery, I cannot help but lament the haste with which that time here has so quickly come to its end.

Yet still, despite the wave of tumultuous emotions as rough as the sea that rock the ferry I board and the salty waters that spring to my eyes in  an equally steady rainfall of glistening tears, I find myself regretting not one single, solitary moment of the journey.  For it seems that Greece has not only forever captured my spirit, but the bounty of Tinos ere as well my heart.

And thus as I turn back to give a brief wave to Yann, albeit with a tremulous smile, it is in the knowledge that the woman now leaving will never more be the same as the one long ago who arrived.

SKYVIEW VILLA*

The villa stands in a tranquil natural setting on the southern coast of Tinos. The elevated position of the residence, which appears to be suspended between sky and sea, affords panoramic views of the sparkling Aegean, nearby islands and surrounding countryside. Just 500 metres from the beautiful sandy beach of Aghios Sostis, the villa enjoys the seclusion of a small bay protected by rocky outcrops.

Aghios Sostis is washed by calm, crystal clear, shallow waters making it ideal for families with children even when it is windy elsewhere on the island. Guests can also swim from the rocks just 150 metres below the villa. And, for a change of pace, the cafes, restaurants and shops of the main town and port are only a short drive away.

DESCRIPTION

Tinos Sky View Villa is a single-story detached residence of 100 m2, standing on 2000 m2 of private land. Featuring minimalist elegance and modern comforts, the villa has two bedrooms, each with a double bed and stunning sea views. There is one bathroom and toilet along with a separate toilet and an outdoor shower. The spacious open-plan living room and fully equipped kitchen includes a dining area for six guests.

In one corner, right next to a glass door, there is a wooden writing desk. The main living space opens onto a large veranda with an inviting pergola-shaded dining area. There is also a cozy sitting area on the roof terrace, from where the views of the sea and nearby islands, including Mykonos, Delos and Syros, are simply breathtaking. At night, the shimmering stars feel almost within reach.
