Man vs. nature. Man vs. wild. There seems to have been some consensus established long ago distinguishing human beings from the rest of the natural world. A consensus which has not only persisted but has been amplified, situating nature in opposition to humanity, making it our adversary. Current environmental developments, or rather environmental degradation, has obliged us for the sake of our preservation as a species to reexamine our relationship with this thing-of-which-we-are-not-apart. But are things really so simple? This issue examines the interaction of humanity with the “natural”, our relation to it, or rather our place in it.
