Assoulin has established her identity from the very beginning in 2014. She is a young designer who mainly experiments with voluminous shapes and sculptural combinations but in a unique rhetoric that is dauntlessly executed in her distinctive groove for each of the collections. The Spring 16 collection beach themed though it was, demonstrated mature qualities which stood away from a conventional Hawaiian tropic aesthetic. What the designer did instead was create a visual metaphor of the beach through casual garments like colorful knits, bathing suits and even pyjamas. Her sartorial conversation abundant with warmth and sunlight is nothing but all-embracing as man repellers and man getters alike could not negate the liberating opportunity to master the art of layering triangle bikinis on top of dramatic halter dresses. What is more gripping when one looks at the clothes that Rosie Assoulin creates is the exciting new artistic vision they embody and the striving for liberty manifest in the surreal energies in them: Pulsing colours bring our summer cravings back too soon as a sense of elevated teen playfulness is evident on the oversized pants with the sewn on boxers popping out on top. What is more, the one side shoulder cocktail dress represents something new, artistically complimented by layering underneath a femasculine classic pink shirt. Steeped in beauty of the extraordinary were also the remarkable earpieces ornamentally fulfilling the collection and automatically exciting the eye with hyperrealist art references.
The spectators ought to feel the impact of the collection with directness and delight as imagination is a topos which amalgamates past experiences into new meaningful contexts. It is true that Assoulin provides the topos in her past collections but in this one she gives shape to the multifarious significance of the new and meaningful. We so want to plunge into that even when the pool is empty.
