Karim Adduchi was born in Morocco, but in his later years he moved to Barcelona. Because he did not speake the native language, communication troubles were resolved by expressing himself through drawings and that is how he developped  his unique visual expression. In 2010 he moved to Amsterdam to pursue his education, in the fashion department, at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. And this is when everything begins.

“She Knows Why the Caged Bird Sings” Collection

Adduchi sourced materials from his property country of Morocco to generate his collection, which is titled “She Knows Why the Caged Bird Sings”, inspired by  his culture. In this collection he transformed traditional carpets into frayed and patterned clothes, incorporating the materials of wool and leather. The carpets are curved and looped into structured skirts, while softer materials are draped to create oversized headdresses. Using traditional prehistoric knitting techniques of Berber carpets, his pieces are made by knotting natural fibers while other versions are woven from wool, nylon and plastic. By infusing intricate structural volumes in the women body he introducing the new garments as modern body attachments. His future is more than promising for sure.
