Yasiin Bey: U.S. Concert Tour Cancelled

Mos Def

Today, I am severely saddened to hear that the 2014 U.S. concert tour of one of the most socially conscious and legendary critical hip-hop artists of our times was cancelled.

The Beats, Rhymes and Life artist, Mos Def, who recently changed his legal and professional name to Yasiin Bey, has been living in Cape Town, South Africa for the past 4 years, and because of rumored legal issues was barred from entering his native home, United States, for his 2014 concert tour. Politically active and openly critical of U.S. policies, just last year, Yasiin Bey teamed up with the human rights group Reprieve to reenact a force-feeding such just like the ones endured by hunger strikers jailed in Guantanamo Bay.

Since his debut into the world of underground conscious hip hop in the mid nineties, Bey has performed along side and collaborated with some of the most beloved hip hop artists and rappers in the conscious rap game including Telib Kweli and Common.
